Overview

The ongoing conflict in Yemen between government forces, Houthi rebels and other groups is a significant threat to New Zealanders living or travelling there. 

Middle East security situation - This could deteriorate without notice and may result in travel disruptions. Monitor the media to stay informed about current events in your travel destination.

Terrorism - Suicide bombings, car bombs, improvised explosive device (IED) attacks and small arms attacks are common. 

Kidnapping - there is a high threat to foreigners. Kidnapping victims have been sold to terrorist groups or killed.   

New Zealanders travelling or living in Yemen should have a comprehensive travel insurance policy in place that includes provision for medical evacuation by air. You should check that your travel insurance policy covers travel in Yemen – exclusions may apply.
